02/24 - Heavy rains lash Oman

MUSCAT — Heavy rains pounded Muscat and many other parts of Oman yesterday.

The showers, accompanied by thunder and strong winds started in the afternoon, and within no time most roads in the capital were flooded. The skies remained heavily overcast for several hours.

Motorists had to struggle to reach their destinations, wading through pools of water. But no major traffic blocks were reported because, being a Thursday, there were relatively few vehicles on the road. The Met Office, meanwhile, has forecast the wet conditions, with several areas in the country experiencing thundershowers, to continue until Saturday.
