Stormchaser Inc. was formed in January 1997, in Cape Town, South Africa by Kevin M. Levey. A joint partnership with necessitated the formation of an online meteorological company. Weather forecasts have been offered since the inception of South Africa's very first weather site, the Cape Town Weather Watch, when Stormchaser Inc.'s Chief Meteorologist and CEO, Kevin Levey was still at the University of Cape Town's Oceanography Department, and the first official weather website commenced operation on 1 JANUARY 1995.

The site underwent a change later in 1995 when Stormchaser, Inc joined forces with Iafrica.com and the site became known as Weatherscape, with the URL http://os2.iafrica.com, and later in 1997, when Stormchaser, Inc was officially formed, the URL changed to weather.iafrica.com. and the site had grown from 1 page back in 1995, to over 1000 pages. Today, our site is known as 1stweather.com, and we no longer are associated with Iafrica.com in a dual partnership bringing you this site - instead, Stormchaser, Inc (under the guidance of Kevin Levey) has now joined forces with CustomWeather located in the United States. Kevin Levey is originally from Cape Town, and hence has an extensive personal knowledge and experience of local SA conditions. He is currently located in San Francisco, Califiornia, where he joined CustomWeather in 2005 as their Director of Meteoroloical Operations. Being located in the US certainly has its advantages since we're able to download huge volumes of model data etc, in very short time periods to update our forecasts etc, and we many state of the art servers running in a reliable data center.
